New Liverpool signing Nathaniel Clyne is backing himself to adapt to life at Anfield in a quick fashion; as three other players, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert, who too signed from Southampton, failed to do.
Clyne recently became the fourth player in a year to make the switch from the south coast to Merseyside and he is confident that he will be able to cope with the pressure that gets put on players when they sign for Liverpool:
“I’m confident in my ability and the player I am and that I can make the next step up. I wouldn’t have moved if I didn’t think I was ready.” Clyne told The Mirror.
“I spoke to a few of them (the former Saints trio) before coming and they told me about how good the club is and it would be exciting if I joined them. So yeah, I’m looking forward to it.”
Clyne also believes that his switch to Liverpool will increase his chances of becoming a first-team regular in the England national side.
Roy Hodgson, the England manager, had reportedly informed Clyne that he isn’t guaranteed a place in the side – prior to him making the £12m switch.
Clyne continued: “Obviously, I was disappointed not to play in the summer for the national team. It’s just made me more hungry to play, to push for it and try to get in the team. I feel like I’m good enough and that I should be playing, so yeah, I was disappointed.”
“They do say once you are playing for a big club you get more of a look-in for the international team.”
“When I was playing at Southampton, I was getting a look in. So if I can play as well as I was then, hopefully I can nail my spot as an international.”
