Ruben Neves’ current captain Conor Coady has likened him to Liverpool legend and ex-captain Steven Gerrard, report the BBC.
Coady, who came through Liverpool’s academy before being sold to Huddersfield in 2014, is the captain of Wolves. And he thinks the Portuguese player shows lots of similar qualities to Gerrard:
When I was coming through, Steven Gerrard was playing more as a sitting midfielder under Brendan Rodgers. Ruben is very similar, in terms of his passing range. The way he manipulates the ball around his feet and picks out passes. And the goals he has been scoring are sensational.
The 21-year-old has been linked with a summer move to Merseyside after taking the Championship by storm following his arrival at Molineux from Porto last summer.
After guiding Wolves to the Premier League, Coady believes that Neves has the perfect attitude to succeed, shown by the fact he was under pressure when he signed for Wolves:
He had a lot of people talking about him at the start of the season, saying he’s coming from Porto, would he be able to adapt to the physicality? But he’s took to it like a duck to water. He’s only 21 and he’s playing well beyond his years.
It is clear that Neves has a brilliant future ahead, and should Liverpool manage to sign him, they could have a future great of the game for many years to come.
