Comolli: Reds have made the same mistakes

Damien Comolli, the former director of football for Liverpool, believes the club have made the same mistakes they made last summer, and has questioned Brendan Rodgers’ signings.

With Christian Benteke’s arrival marking the seventh player signed during this transfer window, Comolli believes that the Anfield club are repeating the errors of 2014, with transfer activity last summer being a reason for the disappointing 2014-15 campaign.

Liverpool made eight signings last during the previous close season, may of which have flattered to deceive.

Comolli told Talksport: “Without talking about individual players, it is always a big risk to make so many changes during one transfer window.

“I thought it was a huge risk last year after selling [Luis] Suarez and bringing in, I think, nine. Now they have decided to change a lot again and totally rebuild. That is always a massive, massive risk.”

Comolli then compared Liverpool’s transfer activity to that of our Premier League rivals, saying: “Arsenal, United, City and Chelsea are making some very subtle adjustments to their squad and, on the other hand, Liverpool are changing everything every year. I’m not convinced it is the right approach.

“It is a huge risk. If you look at the stability of City, Chelsea, Arsenal throughout the years – the proof is in the pudding.”

Damien Comolli was at Liverpool from November 2010 to April 2012, and under his guidance, the Reds overpaid for a number of players, with Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing two great examples of this.
