- Curtis Jones comments on Mohamed Salah’s exit
- Hails Egyptian king as club legend
- Admits he has learned a lot from the former Chelsea man
Liverpool star Curtis Jones spoke to TNT Sports ahead of the FA Cup quarter final clash against Manchester City, hailing Mohamed Salah after he announced his exit this summer.
The 25-year-old has said that he learned a lot from the winger over the last few seasons, adding that he has been working closely with the 33-year-old. He went on to state that the fans only see the goals and assists in the stadium, but the work put in at the gym and training ground goes unnoticed.
Jones claimed that Salah works on every single little thing, and that has been the key reason for his success.
He said:
“I’m from a fan (point of view) as well. You know, it’s actually hard to see a player like Mo, who gave this club everything. In the records, he has set and broken himself. It’s been a joy to be a part of his journey to see how hard he’s worked. As you know, as a fan in the stadium around the world, you’d always see Mo with the goals, the assists, and the exciting times that he’s obviously given [the fans].
“But for me as a player, I’ve seen how hard that he’s worked in the gym and how much he looks after himself and his body and is recovery and his actions and all that. As a young lad who’s obviously learned a lot from him, and I have taken a lot from him.”
The midfielder wished Salah the best for his future, while thanking him for setting the standards at the club and helping the youngster reach new levels.
“I’m not built like him, obviously, but yeah. I just stay in the same mindset and use that stuff that he’s obviously done, and I’ve learned a lot from him. He’s a legend. He has achieved everything that he can. So, good luck to him!”
Salah has played 169 matches with Jones at Liverpool, and the duo has combined for 16 goals. The winger has scored 11 of those goals, while the young midfielder has notched five.
Liverpool players ready to battle for Mohamed Salah
Jones was asked whether the Liverpool players were determined to end the season on a high by winning silverware to help Salah leave as a winner. The Reds midfielder was quick to admit that the players are charged up, and he believes that everyone has the winger’s exit on their minds as a key reason to win the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League this season.
“100% yeah. A 100% and I think that Mo would want that as well. He knows that we’ve obviously always got his back, the same way he’s always had ours. The season is obviously being up and down and but now that we’re at the final stage of the season and obviously news that Mo’s gonna go. So yeah, be nice to finish on the high and but you know, we can only focus on the games that come around, quick and fast, against good teams. We’re always going to give our best, for the fans, for the team, and especially now for Mo.”
Salah has not revealed his next club, and his agent has insisted that a decision has not been made. The winger has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, while MLS clubs are also keen to sign the 33-year-old in the summer.
