Danny Ings set to miss rest of season

Danny Ings is set to be out for the rest of Liverpool’s season after suffering a knee injury against Tottenham last week.

The former Burnley striker returned to action earlier this year after a long-term injury and only made his first competitive appearance under Jurgen Klopp last Tuesday.

With his chances limited thanks to the form of Roberto Firmino and the other high profile options Klopp has at his disposal, Ings has spent much of the season playing with the U23 squad.

The Englishman has not gone unnoticed though, giving a professional attitude to his games at youth level and standing out with his performances.

This latest injury is another huge setback for his Liverpool career, however, coming just a month or so before a busy Christmas period for the Reds in which Ings may have found himself receiving more time on the pitch.

In truth, Jurgen Klopp probably won’t miss Ings to the point of despair, but his tenacity and work rate is clearly something the German likes about the 24-year-old.

If reports are to be believed, Klopp and Liverpool turned down a number of large bids for Ings in the summer, so they clearly see a future for him at Anfield.

The injury, thankfully for Ings, is not another ACL problem nor is it in the same knee, but it will keep him out for the remainder of 2016/17.

He’s set to undergo surgery in London.
