Dejan Lovren set to join Zenit St Petersburg in £10.9m deal

Dejan Lovren is on the verge of making an exit from Liverpool as the Premier League champions have agreed to sell him to Zenit St Petersburg for a fee of around £10.9m.

As first reported by Paul Joyce of The Times, Liverpool and Zenit have been in talks for a few weeks about a deal and the terms of the deal are close to being finalised.

The 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool this season and has made just 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal; a header against Napoli in the Champions League group clash at Anfield.

Lovren joined Liverpool from Southampton for £20m back in 2014, and after making over 180 appearances for the club, he will now make his exit.

Lovren’s time at Liverpool has been up and down to say the least, he’s had some excellent moments in a Red shirt, such as his famous goal against Borussia Dortmund, but he’s also had some horrific performances, such as his display in the heavy defeat to Tottenham where he was taken off midway through the first-half.

Still, the Croatian will leave as a Premier League and Champions League winner and Liverpool look to be getting back more than half the fee they paid for him six years ago, so this looks like a good deal for all parties involved.
