Dejan Lovren tips Mohamed Salah to remain at Liverpool

Dejan Lovren and Mohamed Salah struck up a fairytale friendship during the Croatian’s time at Liverpool before he left last summer for Zenit St Petersburg.

Despite rarely featuring for the Reds in the final months of his six-year spell on Merseyside, the 31-year-old remained professional throughout and his closeness with Salah was clear for all to see.

Speaking with talkSPORT’s White and Jordan Show (Thursday, 10:30am), the defender revealed that he is still in touch with the Egyptian and has backed his friend to remain at Anfield. When asked whether the Premier League’s top scorer this season is still as committed to the club, Lovren said:

Yeah, of course. He’s his biggest critic of himself, I’m not surprised he’s doing well individually. It needs to be from both ways, love like I see it now.

Why not? Mo is in the best stage of his football career, the peak of his form, why not stay another four, five, six years.

Lovren now captains the Russian Premier League side and is currently enjoying his mid-season break in Dubai, where recently he was joined by Virgil van Dijk as the Dutchman continues his recovery.

Salah’s future at Anfield is seemingly never far from speculation, perhaps owing to his occasional tantrums when replaced or his tendency to not be the greatest at sharing the ball every now and then.

However, his numbers speak for themselves despite Liverpool’s ongoing tribulations at times this season. The 28-year-old leads the way in the league for goals and continues to produce at pivotal times for the Reds.

There will remain much conjecture over his future and possibly when the optimum time to cash in could be, but whilst he continues to score goals at an unrivalled rate, it should be very difficult to convince any Kopite that he should be moved on.
