Dirk Kuyt shares what he really thinks about facing Liverpool as Fenerbahce manager

Dirk Kuyt will come up against his former club Liverpool tomorrow as he continues to remain in charge of Fenerbahce on an interim basis.

After Ismail Kartal stepped down, the Dutchman, who was his assistant at the time, got the job temporarily to steady the ship.

Kuyt was a fan favourite during his time at Anfield and is still held in high regard, as he was one of the club’s most reliable players under Rafa Benitez.

And now, he has shared his thoughts about facing the Reds ahead of what promises to be an interesting afternoon for him in Istanbul.

Dirk Kuyt makes Liverpool admission

“Everyone knows how much Fenerbahce and Liverpool mean to me,” said the Dutchman via Liverpool’s official website.

“Of course tomorrow will be a very, very special occasion for me. But at the stage we are in, I’m not the important person. It’s the club.

“Liverpool are an amazing team, but so are Fenerbahce. If the fans show up, I think Europe will see how big this fan base is.”

It’ll undoubtedly be a special occasion for Kuyt, but Andoni Iraola and co won’t care one bit as they set out to ruin his party.

Liverpool are unbeaten in the UEFA Champions League this season and can take a major step towards the knockout stages with a win, and that’s exactly what they’ll look to do.
