‘Doubt’ – David Ornstein refutes recent Liverpool transfer claim

‘Doubt’ – David Ornstein refutes recent Liverpool transfer claim

Liverpool made four new signings in the summer transfer window under Andoni Iraola but have a lot of work to do to have a squad capable of competing on all fronts.

Their right-back spot is in a state of bother as Jeremie Frimpong hasn’t lived up to the hype, while Conor Bradley is nowhere close to returning to full fitness.

In terms of their midfield, they could do well with another player after Curtis Jones’ departure. Wataru Endo, on the other hand, is out of favour, increasing Liverpool’s need for a quality midfielder.

And now, David Ornstein has confirmed that there is nothing advanced involving Liverpool and Lamine Camara.

Liverpool didn’t scupper Chelsea move for Lamine Camara

Camara was close to joining Chelsea on deadline day, but the deal fell through when Monaco pulled the plug hours before the window slammed shut.

In the days that followed, various reports confirmed that Liverpool had called Camara’s agents and told them they could make a move for him in 2027 after his failed transfer.

And now, Ornstein has confirmed that Liverpool had nothing to do with his failed move to Stamford Bridge.

“I have no knowledge of that at all,” said Ornstein via The Athletic‘s QnA when asked if Liverpool disrupted Chelsea’s move for Camara on deadline day.

“I presume it’s speculation and, to my knowledge, not the case. But that’s just because I don’t know about it. So I will have to pass on that one because that hasn’t been mentioned to me by anybody.

“You have so many conversations around these situations in the midst of, and after, deadline day, and not one person involved in Camara, Monaco, Chelsea or Liverpool has raised that.

“And given that Liverpool have multiple options, I’m not sure. I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say Liverpool just rang up Monaco or Camara and said, don’t do it, we’re coming for you. So I doubt that one.”

Maybe nothing is advanced or imminent, but Liverpool’s interest in Camara is well documented and Monaco’s relationship with Chelsea is strained after what happened on deadline day.

If Alexis Mac Allister leaves in 2027, the Reds could well make a move for the talented midfielder, who has started the 2026-27 season in fine form.
