Emre Can’s contract dispute has been ongoing since 2016, with Liverpool failing to nail the player down to a new deal.
Can will be a free agent at the end of the season if he fails to renew his deal at Anfield, and it’s fair to say that this would be a huge loss for the club.
The dynamic German has been a huge asset to the squad, especially in the latter stages of last season during the big top four push. Scoring the club’s first goal under Jurgen Klopp, it’s easy to see why the manager uses him so much and why he’s desperate for the player to stay.
The Liverpool Echo caught up with Can after Wednesday’s win at Stoke and after the player was asked if he would still be at Liverpool next season he had this to say:
Why do you ask me this? Really, I concentrate on this season and let my agent handle all the rest.

With a major issue in negotiations supposedly being whether there will be a release clause in Can’s contract or not, with his agent eager for one to be included.
When asked about the release clause Can said:
It’s not about the money that’s all I can say. Yes I could (sign a pre-contract with another club next month) but tomorrow I could also sign for Liverpool, we’ll see.
Can has now racked up 100 league games for Liverpool and it’s clear to see that Klopp and most of the fanbase would like to see the German midfielder sign a new contract sooner rather than later, with Juventus the favourites to sign the player on a free next year.
