Fekir parts ways with agent after failed Liverpool transfer

There is set to be another summer involving transfer speculation surrounding Lyon captain Nabil Fekir on the horizon.

The French World Cup winner has been at Lyon since the age of 12 but looked certain to move to Liverpool last summer, only for the deal to fall through at the last minute.

Following the failed move to Anfield, there was reported tension between both Fekir and his representative Jean-Pierre Bernes and it was finally confirmed this morning that the two are no longer associated.

Bernes told radio station Europe 1, as cited by Football365:

I terminated the contract on [Thursday]. It was a choice [Fekir] took. He will certainly look for another agent. Like all human relationships, from time to time you can have a difference of opinion on someone’s future or their behaviour. To get into one of the top 10 clubs is very difficult, you must have an approach. You must not place too much importance on the role of an agent. When you have a big player and a big club wants him, it is the club who come to see you. You are not soliciting interest.

Jurgen Klopp was looking for a player to fill the hole left by Phillipe Coutinho after his move to Barcelona last January, but it’s fair to say the Reds have coped well without the Brazilian.

Whether Liverpool will move for Fekir again this summer is unknown, but he should be available if they do decide he’s the right man to improve an already-strong squad.
