Fekir told he’s allowed to leave Lyon this summer

Liverpool have been handed fresh hope in their drawn-out bid to sign Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir, with club president Jean-Michel Aulas revealing he’s free to leave this summer.

A deal worth £53million to bring the French World Cup winner to Anfield crumbled at the final hurdle last year, but now seems to be the perfect time to go back in for him.

Aulas, cited by Star Sport, recently admitted he’ll let Fekir depart Lyon during the transfer window, with just one year left on his current deal.

Effectively, Nabil is outside [of the two departures we already expect to happen], because we have an understanding that he can go. Thanks Nabil for bringing what he brought, we have an understanding to let him go.

If Fekir was to stay, the Ligue 1 outfit would risk losing him on a free transfer next summer so it could be a case of second time lucky for Jurgen Klopp, if he’s still interested in the player.

The attacking-minded midfielder – who is also comfortable on the flanks – scored 12 goals and provided nine assists in 39 appearances for Lyon this season.

Manchester City and Juventus have also been linked, but considering footage leaked of Fekir holding a Liverpool shirt around 12 months ago is a clear indication of his willingness to move to Merseyside.
