Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp addresses Real Madrid rumours – ‘It’s good we’re talking about this’

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has distanced himself from Real Madrid rumours. The German has claimed that they have had no contact and hit out at the media for creating rumours.

Los Blancos have been linked with Klopp since January, when Xabi Alonso left his role at Santiago Bernabeu. The Spanish giants appointed Alvaro Arbeo as the replacement, but are still looking for a big name to take over at the club in the summer.

Klopp has been heavily linked, with reports in Germany and Spain suggesting that talks have also taken place. However, the former Liverpool manager has now rubbished the claims and said that he is surprised to read the stories.

The 58-year-old has insisted that Real Madrid have not contacted him and he remains committed to the Red Bull group, where he is the Head of Soccer. He said at a press conference held by Magenta TV:

“It’s good we’re talking about this. When is a story a story? When someone takes a sheet of paper and writes something on it? Or when there’s actually something to it? What does the situation have to be? That Real Madrid called me at some point and said: ‘Florentino Pérez on the phone! Jürgen, how are things?’

“Or is it enough if [people] – no idea whether it’s AI or written by people – write some rubbish? That annoys me. You need to show a bit of discipline there. It’s all just nonsense.’ [Madrid have] not called him once, not a single time.” (via The Telegraph)

Magenta TV’s press conference was held on Monday, March 23, as they were unveiling the pundits for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Klopp is on the list along with Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels.

Jurgen Klopp not ruling out returning to the dugout

Klopp was asked in the presser whether he planned to quit the Red Bull role soon. He slammed the journalists for making things up, calling them ‘idiots’ and saying they had no clue about his plans.

However, he refused to rule out taking over the German national team coach role after the FIFA World Cup. He pressed that there were no plans in place, but said:

“I’m not thinking about that at all at the moment. Who knows what the next few years will bring. But there are absolutely no plans in that regard.”

Julian Nagelsmann has a contract with DFB until the 2028 Euros, but reports suggest that the young manager is looking to get back to club football soon.

Jurgen Klopp won’t manager another club in England after Liverpool stint

While Klopp confirmed that he would be open to making a return to the dugout, he has shut the door for a move to a Premier League side. He wants to remain loyal to Liverpool, saying that it is impossible for him to take over a side battling the Reds in the league, and said:

“What I know definitely is that I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent. That’s not possible.”

Jurgen Klopp managed 489 matches at Liverpool, winning 204 times and losing just 85. He won the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League once, and added the FA Cup and two League Cup medals.

For now, it seems the legendary German is content with his role in the boardroom and his upcoming stint in the punditry chair for the 2026 World Cup.

While the allure of the Santiago Bernabéu or the pull of the German national team will always spark debate, Klopp’s loyalty to the Red Bull project and his unwavering bond with Liverpool remains the only concrete reality.

Whether the “Normal One” ever returns to the touchline remains to be seen, but for the time being, he is more than happy to let the rumors remain exactly that: nonsense.
