FSG confirm talks to sell minority Liverpool stake to Mittal-family-led consortium

Liverpool owners FSG are in talks to sell a minority stake to the Mittal family-backed consortium in a deal that values the Premier League giants at more than $6 billion.

In an official statement, an FSG spokesperson has confirmed the news, with Amit Bhatia believed to be in talks with the concerned parties after relinquishing his stake with QPR recently.

The Mittal family also purchased a minority stake in IPL side Rajasthan Royals earlier this year, so this is another statement of intent from them in the sporting world.

FSG confirmed the consortium’s interest in a statement to the FT.

“An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.”

Sky Sports‘ Amar Mehra also provided a detailed update on the situation.

“A consortium led by formerQPR co-owner Amit Bhatia is in talks to buy a minority stake in Liverpool.

“The investment group – led by Bhatia and backed by the Mittal family – have hired advisors to work on a potential deal with current Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group to purchase a minority stake. Bhatia was QPR’s co-owner until July 21, when he transferred his share of the club to Ruben Gnanalingam.

“Sky Sports News understands that this would be similar to the investment made by Dynasty in 2023 and is another way FSG are looking to further position the club for success. It is understood that talks are at an early stage and there is no agreement in place at this stage.

“Liverpool are owned by FSG, a US-based company controlled by John Henry. The group bought the club for £300m in 2010. FSG also owns the Boston Red Sox. The Mittal family purchased a majority stake in IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals in May 2026.”
