“He could play anywhere”: Gary Lineker makes commendation over Liverpool’s £67.5m starlet

Yesterday saw England cruise out 4-0 winners against Andorra in their second World Cup Qualifier.

It was a great performance from the Three Lions, with Liverpool’s presence evident in the starting XI.

Both Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold started the game for Gareth Southgate last night.

The interesting point, however, was the fact that Alexander-Arnold started the game in midfield.

Despite having played at right-back for the majority of his professional career, Trent used to play in midfield.

It has often been a topic of discussion as to whether the 22-year-old may make the transition later in his career.

In fact, Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker believes he should, with him paying quite the compliment last night.

The former striker took to Twitter, stating that Trent could play anywhere on the pitch…

There is no denying that over the last few years, Trent has been one of the best full-backs in the world.

Having been given his first-team debut by Jurgen Klopp, in just the last three years the youngster has won the lot.

Premier League and Champions League victory have cemented his position amongst football’s current best.

It would be great to see him deployed in midfield more often given his passing ability.

From right-back, Trent has managed 32 assists over the last three Premier League seasons, impressive from defence.

The stats suggest that Trent could succeed in midfield but of course there isn’t any reason for him to do so.

Currently, Trent is a fantastic full-back, and his role and ability suit Klopp’s system perfectly from right-back.

However, it would be great to see him get more chances in midfield in the near future.
