Germany leave Can out of World Cup squad

Emre Can has been left out of Germany’s 27-man provisional World Cup squad.

The 24-year-old hasn’t featured for Liverpool since mid-March when he suffered a back injury during the 5-0 win over Watford.

That lay-off has been enough for Joachim Löw to overlook the midfielder as he feels his fitness would be an issue for the physical two-way player at the tournament.

Can’s contract expires at Anfield this summer and he is expected to leave, with Juventus almost certain to be his next club.

It is proving to be a tough time for Can as he is set to miss both teh Champions league final and World Cup, in the peak of his career.

Making his debut for the national side in 2015, Can has 20 caps for Germany. He went to Euro 2016 and started in the 2-0 semi-final loss to France.

Four other Premier League players were included in the squad. Manchester City duo Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan were selected alongside Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Antonio Rudiger of Chelsea.
