Steven Gerrard remains a doubt for Liverpool’s crucial first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final against Chelsea. The Liverpool skipper injured his hamstring in last week’s 1-0 win against Sunderland. The midfielder was taken off as a precaution, but it seems that Gerrard will miss the first leg.
According to The Times, Brendan Rodgers is to delay his starting line-up for as long as he can. This will give Gerrard every chance to prove he has overcome this hamstring strain and can play in the semi-final.
Liverpool will go into the game as underdogs as Chelsea have been exceptional this season. The skipper’s influence could prove massive as the Reds have a huge task on their hands. Liverpool are at Anfield in the first leg, so they will be looking to have a decent advantage going into the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
Adam Lallana is back for Liverpool, so he could be in the side instead of the captain. Or Liverpool could opt with Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho playing in behind Fabio Borini, which worked well against Aston Villa on Saturday.
