Steven Gerrard could face up to three weeks on the sidelines after the skipper picked up a hamstring injury in Tuesday’s win against Spurs. Gerrard leaves for the MLS in the summer and his final chapter is set to be interrupted by this injury.
Liverpool already have problems with their midfield. Lucas Leiva has been ruled out for up to a month and with the captain out as well, Liverpool’s squad depth could be questioned. Joe Allen is an option, but hasn’t really got going this season. Emre Can is another, however the German has been playing as a centre-back and really impressing.
According to The Guardian, Rodgers could push Can up into midfield and there could be a place in the side for Dejan Lovren. Lovren did come on for Gerrard in the Tottenham win and Can was pushed up pitch and was excellent. Lovren put in a decent performance, too, despite his awful start to his Liverpool career.
Gerrard will potentially miss some crucial fixtures for the Reds. The FA Cup clash with Crystal Palace, both Besiktas legs, a crucial game versus Southampton and potentially Manchester City at Anfield.
