Ex-Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard believes Jordon Ibe’s influence will grow now that Raheem Sterling is gone.
“Ibe’s got tons of potential and tons of ability. I think it’s down to Jordon to grasp that position now Raheem has gone,” said Gerrard, who enjoyed a fantastic MLS debut with LA Galaxy, scoring a goal and assisting another, as well as winning a penalty.
Gerrard continued to heap praise on his former team mate Ibe.
“If he can be mentally strong, hungry and want it, the stage is there for him to be a terrific wide-man for Liverpool. He’s certainly got all the tools.”
LA Galaxy’s new number 8 believes Brendan Rodgers can help the 19-year-old winger can take the next step as he did with Sterling.
“I am sure Brendan will give him the same time he gave Raheem and you saw how much he progressed Raheem over the years,” said Gerrard.
Since moving to Los Angeles, Gerrard hasn’t lost touch with all things Liverpool Football Club, even continuing to wear his Liverpool shin pads.
He’s been apprised of Liverpool’s transfer dealings and was questioned about Christian Benteke as the Belgian is widely reported to be undergoing a medical and completing his move very soon.
“I think he’s a terrific talent,” said Gerrard. “We’ve faced him a number of times and he’s been unplayable. You can’t put all the responsibility on Daniel Sturridge, so hopefully he comes and does well.”
