Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has revealed who he believes is better in between the sticks out of Premier League title-chasers Alisson and Ederson.
The 38-year-old was the first ever Brazilian ‘keeper the grace the top-flight when he signed for Tottenham Hotspur for £7.8million in 2008.
A decade later, Benfica’s Ederson joined Manchester City for £35million before Liverpool signed Alisson from Roma for £66.8million, a world record.
Speaking to the BBC, Gomes said he favours the Reds’ stopper at the moment because of the more complete nature of his game.
Alisson is a very good shot-stopper but he can also play very well with his feet which is important for the way Liverpool play. I believe he is a complete goalkeeper, that’s why he is playing for Liverpool. [Alisson and Ederson] are both similar, to be honest, they are both similar players. At the moment Alisson [is better] because I believe he’s more complete than Ederson.
The veteran goalkeeper is very likely to retire at the end of this season but he has two impressive successors to continue the Brazilian legacy in England.
Alisson and Ederson may be friends on international duty but their two sides are battling it out for Premier League glory as we enter the run-in.
