Gomez confident Liverpool can achieve big things this season

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez believes that his side can hit a new level this season.

Gomez has seen himself become a starter this term. With Dejan Lovren failing to convince and injury problems sustained by Joel Matip, the Englishman has looked as solid as ever next to record signing Virgil van Dijk.

His performances this season have earned him call-ups to the England national team and he has been getting regular starts for the Three Lions.

He partnered Manchester City’s John Stones in England’s 2-1 win over Croatia last Sunday and helped his national side qualify for the UEFA Nations League semi-finals in Portugal next year.

Liverpool currently sit just two points behind top spot, with Manchester City continuing to assert their stronghold on the Premier League title this season.

Despite a disappointing result away at Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, the Reds are still unbeaten in the league and are not giving up chasing City.

Gomez believes that his side can be even better this season than they were in the last. As quoted by Sky Sports, he said:

I think it’s been said that we haven’t been as free-flowing so that aspect, once it comes back in, will help take us to the next level, adding to what we’ve already worked on and improved.

I think we’re always improving, on last season to now I think we’ve improved. That’s what we aspire to do and what the manager wants us to do, and that’s why he works so hard coaching us and developing us on the training pitch.
