Liverpool ‘adamant’ that £13.5m youngster is ready for first-team and viewed as Shaqiri replacement

One of the big worries for Liverpool ahead of the new Premier League season has been their squad depth.

So far the club has seen a number of players leave the club, with Xherdan Shaqiri the latest to likely depart.

Individuals such as Georginio Wijnaldum, Harry Wilson, Marko Grujic, and youngster Taiwo Awoniyi have left.

With the club letting so many players go, they are yet to reinvest that money back into the squad.

However, according to recent reports, the club is viewing youngster Harvey Elliott as a Shaqiri replacement.

The Daily Mail’s Dominic King states that the club is adamant Elliott is ready for first-team football…

As cited by LFC Transfer Room above, it is a great bit of news for Elliott and the club that he is given the chance.

During his loan at Blackburn last season, the teenager impressed with 7 goals and 11 assists in the Championship.

His performances last season and during this pre-season have clearly merited a promotion to the first team.

As well as that, but it makes sense for the club to view him as the natural replacement for Shaqiri and his role.

The Swiss international didn’t always start but his impact more often than not coming on had a positive contribution.

It is clear to understand what the club means by this too, as this doesn’t mean the club may not sign another player.

Elliott is viewed as the right replacement for Shaqiri but the club still has attacking and midfield options to address.

It will be great to see the youngster involved in the first team with a big chance of him starting vs Norwich.
