Liverpool legend Ian Rush has claimed the current squad is well equipped to challenge for the Premier League this season.
So far this summer the Reds have only added Ibrahima Konate to the ranks following a disappointing campaign in 2020/21.
Jurgen Klopp has also welcomed back Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip to action as well as adding Diogo Jota, Thiago and Kostas Tsimikas to the title-winning squad.
Speaking to talkSPORT (Friday 20/08/2021 9:00am), Rush insisted the players at Klopp’s disposal are strong enough to go all the way.
Definitely (will challenge), Van Dijk, Gomez and Henderson are back – it’s like having three new signings. People are not giving Liverpool a chance because they haven’t signed anyone, but I always say ‘don’t sign someone for the sake of it’. You should only sign someone if they are better than what you’ve got and it’s going to take some player, who is available if Liverpool are going to sign anyone. If everyone stays fit, I think Liverpool are right up there.
Rush also had high praise for a ‘confident’ Roberto Firmino following an opening day goal and claimed teenage sensation, Harvey Elliott, is ready to make an ‘impact’ on the first team.

Whilst it’s wholly conceivable Klopp could mastermind the current crop to another haul of trophies this season, there is little doubt the squad would benefit from certain tweaks.
The departure of the ever available Gini Wijnaldum has left a major gap in the midfield department whilst Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi are arguably short of the level currently required at Anfield.
With less than two weeks remaining in the window, there is still time to implement the subtle squad alterations that would enhance the Reds’ chances.
