Premier League great Ian Wright has praised Jurgen Klopp for switching Sadio Mane into a more central role to cover for the injured Roberto Firmino, ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Everton this afternoon.
Firmino picked up a knock in last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United and didn’t feature against Watford at Anfield in midweek.
Instead, Mane started in a central role and scored twice in the opening 20 minutes to send the Reds on their way to a breath-taking 5-0 win.
With Firmino a doubt again for Sunday’s Merseyside derby, it’s likely Mane will feature down the middle again and Wright has been full of praise for the decision to move him there.
When you look at the way Mane played in that game, it’s a totally different way to Firmino. The way he linked up the play was a different way for Liverpool to attack a team. Firmino does come a lot deeper but Mane stayed in areas where he could bring the team on to him and it really worked for Liverpool the other day.
Liverpool go into the huge clash two points behind Manchester City at the Premier League summit, but will be vying to achieve a sixth win in eight against the Toffees at Goodison Park on what should be an emotion-driven day.
