Insigne’s father has his say on Liverpool speculation

Carmine Insigne, the father of Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne, has commented on recent reports linking his son with a summer move to the Premier League, and more specifically Liverpool.

Last week, Italian website La Repubblica claimed last season’s Serie A runners-up rejected a £61million advance from Liverpool in January.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently trail Manchester City in the Premier League title race and may have been searching for additional attacking firepower to get them across the line to claim a first ever Premier League crown.

Insigne’s father seems fairly confident that the 27-year-old is happy at Napoli though, especially now that he’s captain of the club he has been at since 2006.

Lorenzo is doing very well in Naples and does not intend to go anywhere else. The captain’s armband is a source of great pride for him and for our entire family.

He received the captain’s armband in the summer after Marek Hamsik moved to Chinese club Dalian Yifang and has recorded nine goals and six assists in the league so far this season.

Reports in Italy also suggest that Liverpool’s rivals City and Manchester United are also monitoring Insigne’s availability ahead of a potential move at the end of the campaign.

You never know what can happen to players with Mino Raiola as their agent…
