Inter set Kovacic fee

Anthony Chapman from The Express is reporting that Liverpool must increase their offer to £21m if they want to sign Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The 21-year-old Croatian international had an impressive season in Serie A with Inter and has become one of Liverpool’s top targets as they look to replace the gap left by Steven Gerrard’s departure for MLS.

Liverpool had made an initial £14m bid for Kovacic but Inter declined as they will only let him go for top price. Now reports from Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb say Liverpool will have to add an extra £7 to get Inter to agree to the deal.

Kovacic has been at Inter for three seasons and despite being just 21-years-old he has already racked up 97 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals.

The midfielder has also been praised by some of the biggest names in football with Giovanni Trapattoni describing him as “a mixture of Kaka and Clarence Seedorf”.

Meanwhile, Inter legend Javier Zanetti said despite working with Brazilian Ronaldo, he is “the most promising youngster he has seen at Inter”.

Liverpool have already completed five deals this summer and Nathaniel Clyne is also very close to joining.
