James Milner is out of Liverpool’s Champions League meeting with Ajax, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.
The Reds take on the Eredivisie side at Anfield on Tuesday night, hoping to seal progression to the knockout stages of the competition.
There are a host of injury problems to contend with, however, with Milner the latest player to be sidelined.
The 34-year-old, who recently broke the record for being the oldest player to make 50 European appearances for Liverpool, limped off with a hamstring problem against Brighton on Saturday.
Speaking in his pre-Ajax press conference, Klopp confirmed Milner’s absence from the Ajax game:

Milner being out is yet another bitter blow for Liverpool, who are lacking options hugely at the moment.
The midfielder is such a consistent, experienced and versatile footballer and is a precious member of the squad, so he will be a big loss.
It means Neco Williams will likely start at right-back against Ajax, with Trent Alexander-Arnold still missing.
The hope is that Milner isn’t out for too long, making his presence felt during the festive period.
