- Liverpool have lost thrice to Crystal Palace this season
- The Reds will look to set the record straight at Anfield on Saturday
- Jeremie Frimpong has made an honest admission ahead of the clash
Jeremie Frimpong’s honest admission ahead of the Premier League game against Crystal Palace this Saturday, is exactly what Liverpool fans needed to hear.
Liverpool have had a season to forget, and it is summed up by the fact that they have suffered a total of three defeats at the hands of the Eagles.
Arne Slot’s second campaign began on a sour note, with Liverpool falling to a penalty shootout defeat against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield
It was followed by a 2-1 loss in the Premier League at Selhurst Park in September, when goals from Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah stunned the defending champions.
Liverpool’s domestic struggles continued in October as a second-string side fell 3-0 to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. Despite Slot handing opportunities to several fringe players, Glasner’s men were ruthless in exploitng the Reds lack of cohesion.
Nevertheless, Palace will look to make it 4-0 against the Anfield outfit this season when they travel to L4 on Saturday.
Liverpool owe Crystal Palace one, says Frimpong
The Merseyside-based club, for their part, will look to build on their 2-1 victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last weekend.
A win against Palace would take them another step closer to securing a fifth-placed finish and qualification to the UEFA Champions League.
However, it remains to be seen if they survive another bout against their bogey team. Frimpong certainly thinks so.
Speaking ahead of the game, the right-back claimed that the players are in high spirits after the Merseyside derby triumph.
He also stressed the need for them to get their revenge on Palace after losing to them thrice already.
Frimpong told the club’s in-house media: “The spirits are good now, everyone is excited to go for the match on Saturday because Crystal Palace have beaten us three times this season. Obviously we want to show that we can beat them. We’re looking forward to the match.“
The Netherlands international admitted that Liverpool are out for revenge against the Eagles, expressing his hope that the Reds can finally show the visitors their true quality
He said: “Yeah, 100 per cent [we owe them a defeat]. My first match for Liverpool, they beat us in the Community Shield, and they knocked us out of the Carabao Cup, and obviously, they beat us at their house.
“It’s not good getting beat three times, so this is another meaningful game. We have to go and show what we’ve got.”
Frimpong unlikely to start v Palace
Going by his words, it is evident that Frimpong is keen to impress against Crystal Palace.
However, he is unlikely to be named in the starting line-up after Curtis Jones impressed at right-back against Everton.
Dominik Szoboszlai has also been deployed in that position several times this term, and Slot is inclined to stick with either him or Jones.
Should he start, Frimpong is likely to go up against Yeremy Pino on the right-hand side.
