Johnson set to snub Roma

Full-back Glen Johnson looks set to extend his current contract at Anfield, despite reported interest from Serie A sides Inter Milan, AC Milan and Roma, according to the Daily Mail.

In his pre-Bolton press conference, Brendan Rodgers stated his desire to keep the 30-year-old at the club, to maintain a balance of experienced players and younger players in the squad.

Glen is not the marauding full-back of six or seven years ago but he is still a quality player and he has a lot to offer with his experience. His game will adapt over the next couple of years and we want to keep him., Rodgers said.

With his current deal expiring in July, Johnson is free to talk to foreign clubs regarding a Bosman transfer at the end of his deal but as of yet he hasn’t met an agreement with any club.

After contract talks initially stalled at the beginning of the season, Johnson now believes that he has a future at the club after a chat with the manager.

He has made 188 appearances in his four and a half years at the club and made his return to the side in Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Bolton in the FA Cup, after a spell on the side-lines due to injury.
