Journalist explains why Kruse snubbed Liverpool

Liverpool have failed in their attempt to lure free agent Max Kruse to Anfield, with the player opting for a move to Turkey with Fenerbahce.

According to RTL journalist Thomas Wagner, as cited on TEAMtalk, the player opted for a move to Turkey for financial reasons.

Jurgen Klopp was reportedly hoping to move for the 31-year-old as a replacement for Daniel Sturridge, who left the club recently.

Kruse has left Werder Bremen after three successful years at the club. He was a major part of the side’s campaign last season in the league – scoring 11 and assisting nine in 32 appearances – the most league appearances he’s had in one season at the club.

After it became clear he would be leaving the German outfit, he was the subject of transfer interest from many different clubs, including Liverpool.

Speaking about Liverpool’s interest in him, Wagner said:

I know Liverpool made an offer to him. At first, I thought that a move to Fenerbahce is an unlikely one. But he choose Fenerbahce over Liverpool. I think he will make a lot of money in Turkey and also he will be the centre of attention.

Klopp has previously revealed that Liverpool will not be spending big this summer following the transfer spree that occurred last season. Nicolas Pepe and Bruno Fernandes are two names to be linked with Anfield, but where they will be playing their football next season remains to be seen.
