Jurgen Klopp: We play the only style that can beat Man City

Liverpool took one huge step towards the semi-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday night as they demolished Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side at Anfield.

The Reds produced arguably their best performance of the season, blowing away the league leaders in the first half with the goals coming from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane.

Jurgen Klopp had nothing but praise for his side after the game, and then went on to admit that the way his side played is the only way to play against the Manchester club

He said, via Marca

Our three midfielders were absolutely brilliant, our three offensive guys were in the right spaces and supported them. That is the only way to get anything against City, we pressed them well and the 3-0 is because of our quality on the night.

But Klopp reiterated that this is only half-time, and refused to get carried away by the result, as he expects City to try everything to spoil the party for his side next week when they meet at the Etihad.

He said:

It is half-time, no more. We know the tie is not decided, we will try to reach the next round. City will try it again and they still have a chance.

Klopp also went on to mention the defensive work of his side , which seems to be improving every week since the signing of Virgil Van Dijk, what has brought great composure and calmness to the back-line, not to mention Andrew Robertson, Dejan Lovren, and Trent Alexander-Arnold who were outstanding.

Klopp added:

Second-half, we defended very deep, gave them no shots on target, and very concentrated. The boys were excellent.

It is crunch week for Klopp’s side, as they travel across Stanley Park to play rivals Everton on Saturday before the return leg with City on Tuesday.
