Jurgen Klopp was thoroughly satisfied with an “all-round good performance” after Liverpool breezed past Southampton at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah surged to the top of the Premier League goal-scoring charts with a first half double before Philippe Coutinho added a third after the break.
A valuable three points leaves the Reds fifth in the table, just a point behind Spurs and two behind Chelsea.
Klopp’s men have now recorded three consecutive league victories, reaffirming their status as top four contenders.
As you can imagine, I am really happy about the defending of the whole team and especially the last line, which was really strong, It was just an all-round good performance, a really deserved win and for us very important to push the top of the table a little bit together. We’re still in [there] and that’s good – [Manchester] City are obviously flying around alone, we cannot change that, but we can put pressure on all of the others and that’s what we did today.

Liverpool have previously struggled to break down lower-league opposition at Anfield, but turned in a thoroughly professional display to brush the Saints aside.
We build on this now and the experiences we’ve had, so we have a much better protection and I hope we can keep that. It’s not that we wouldn’t have known it before, but it’s a big part of not getting nervous in a game. It’s still a lesson for the whole of Liverpool, if you don’t score then you have to try it again, try it again and try it again. Today’s performance looked much more mature and that’s very important for us.
