Keita set to play for Guinea despite Liverpool’s worries

With the African Cup of Nations soon approaching, and friendly games just before, Guinea coach Paul Put is desperate to get his team together.

This includes star man Naby Keita, who despite injuring his adductor muscle in the Champions League for Liverpool just under two months ago, has declared himself fit, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Guinea Football Federation have been putting immense pressure on Liverpool to allow the box-to-box midfielder to link up with his National side.

I put a lot of pressure on Liverpool to send him as soon as possible. In the end I said if Naby doesn’t come now, it will be difficult to put him on the list for AFCON.

Keita will now take part in Guinea’s friendly match against Egypt on Sunday despite previous reports, and head coach Put has made it clear that any player who declares himself ‘fit’ will be in contention to start against Madagascar in their first game of the tournament.

Naby Keita belongs to a state, before belonging to Liverpool. I remind the Liverpool coach a little bit of the rules if he does not know it.

A degree of tension appears to be brewing between the two camps.
