Mateo Kovacic has finally spoken out about a move to Liverpool after months of endless speculation, mainly stemming from the Italian press.
The Croatian international is reportedly on the Reds’ radar and with the money from Raheem Sterling’s sale now available, the funds are there for the Merseyside club to bid for the highly-rated Inter Milan midfielder, should they wish to do so.
Kovacic, though, insists that he wishes to stay at the Italian side and he also told Gazzetta dello Sport, that Inter don’t want to sell him, after reports they needed the funds.
“The club (Inter) have never said they want to sell me,” he said.
“Never. I’ll stay here. I won’t move. That’s what I wanted, that’s what my renewal until 2019 shows, there will be a long relationship between myself and Inter.
“I want to show that I deserve Inter. I want to win with this shirt. Inter is like Real Madrid or Barcelona.”
Kovacic was quizzed about the possibility of him moving to Anfield and potentially becoming a Raheem Sterling replacement, following the 20 year-old’s recent departure to Manchester City:
“We have two different roles. It’s not for me to say whether or not there has been any offers from the Reds or not, hopefully that’s down to my agent. That said, I’ll repeat myself – I want to be here.”
