Rickie Lambert believes that Liverpool now have their winning mentality back after an impressive u-turn in form. Lambert, who scored Liverpool’s second goal in their 2-0 win at Villa Park on Saturday, is feeling confident ahead of Liverpool’s tough Capital One Cup semi-final against Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Lambert looking ahead to the tie against the current league leaders:
“We’re getting better and better – that’s the most exciting thing. We’ve got players coming back and we’re still in all the cups. Chelsea will probably be the favourites, that’s fair to say. But I think we are in better shape going into this game than we were a couple of months ago. I think we’ve got the winning mentality back now.“
The lifelong Liverpool supporter talks about the feeling of scoring for his beloved club, most recently against Villa:
“You can’t beat that feeling of scoring a goal especially scoring a goal for Liverpool. Seeing the ball hit the net, it’s great. I will always remember that moment.”
Lambert celebrated his goal in brilliant fashion. The striker ran over to the fans before passionately celebrating with them. He was booked, but he didn’t care:
“I love those celebrations. I love watching them on telly. To do it myself with the Liverpool fans is something I will always remember. It’s definitely the best moment I’ve felt since being here. I’ve wanted to be more effective, but it just hasn’t happened. That’s my best moment so far – definitely. To have an effect like that – brilliant.”
Lambert will be looking to have a similar impact when Liverpool meet Chelsea on Tuesday night.
