Lazio have snapped up 20-year-old Bobby Adekanye from Liverpool, following a contract breakdown because of a lack of game time for the player, as cited by GOAL.
The Italian giants have signed Adekanye on a free transfer upon the expiry of his Liverpool contract.
Adekanye was a youth product of the highly exclaimed Barcelona academy and joined the Merseyside outfit in 2015. The Dutch youth international was given future first-team promises upon his arrival at the club which was not given, as he failed to make a single senior team debut for the club.
The winger revealed that it was his injury problems that hampered his development and chance of first-team football for the Reds.
Speaking to Voetbalzone, he said:
I expected that I would get a chance at Liverpool sooner. Before I came, we talked about it. They said that if I had a good first season, I had a good chance of joining the first team. Due to injury, that did not come true. I had to undergo surgery at the start of my second season and then it is difficult to return.”
He will now join Lazio’s side for next season’s campaign and he is hoping that he will finally get that chance of senior football. He is far more likely to have that breakthrough when there are players who are not at the same calibre and quality of the European champions.
