LFC Chairman Werner promises ‘the best is yet to come’

Liverpool Chairman, Tom Werner, assured Reds fans on Saturday that ‘the best is yet to come,’ as he spoke for an LFCTV documentary commemorating the club’s 125th anniversary.

In the show ‘What LFC means to me,’ Werner insisted that after his seven-and-a-half-years at the club, the future of Liverpool is brighter than ever, quoted from a Liverpool Echo article:

I think our happiest times are still yet to come, the future is extremely bright…[Liverpool] now has a remarkable manager who is world class, we have a number of world class players on the team.

Werner continued, highlighting the work being done to improve the facilities themselves for players at the club:

We’re going to be building a new facility at Kirkby, where we’re combining the first team with the Academy…we continue to strive every day to make the club stronger and better

Many Liverpool fans have questioned the ambitions of Werner, owner John W. Henry and FSG for the club, with Jurgen Klopp overseeing an unprecedented net profit on transfers last summer, and numerous failures to capture high-profile targets over their tenure at Anfield.

Big names such as Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa, Willian, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Radamel Falcao, and, ironically, Mohamed Salah (who is now close to signing second time around for three times the price), all went to alternative destinations in the Premier League.

Liverpool are now back with a shot at the Champions League, in addition to being only several first-teamers away from mounting a serious title challenge.

Given Werner’s claim five years ago that Liverpool had ‘the funds to compete with any team in the world,’ Reds fans will be rightly be waiting to see if this summer, is finally the one where FSG put their money where their mouth is.
