Liverpool want to add Fabian Delph to their squad in this transfer window, according to the Mirror. Delph is reluctant to sign a new contract with Villa, who are prepared to fight off a £7.5m bid from Liverpool.
Due to Steven Gerrard’s recent announcement that he’s moving to America in the Summer, Villa believe that Liverpool are going to put big money on the table to get hold of the England international’s services. This could be down to Liverpool not wanting to risk missing out on their target.
The Mirror claim that Liverpool see the 25 year-old energetic midfielder as a natural replacement for Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard. If Liverpool did sign Delph, he wouldn’t be cup tied for the Europa League, either.
However, Liverpool may face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the Villa midfielder. Tottenham are thought to be monitoring Delph’s contract situation, and if Liverpool were to bid this month, it may force Spurs into the bank account, too.
Liverpool could wait until the summer and get Delph on a free, or they could remove all risk and hope Villa are willing to do business, which they most likely are, so they can avoid losing him for nothing.
