Liverpool among 11 European giants in race for gifted midfielder

Liverpool are expected to be active in the upcoming transfer windows as Andoni Iraola aims to fine-tune his squad.

Julian Ward has replaced Richard Hughes as the club’s sporting director and the Englishman knows the system inside out, so he will be a great asset.

Over the years, the Reds have signed a handful of young players before they made their big breaks, which could really help them in the long haul.

And now, TEAMtalk report that they are keeping tabs on another such player: Eintracht Frankfurt’s Niko Ilicevic.

Liverpool in the hunt for Niko Ilicevic

An excerpt from their article reads: “Sources have now credited Liverpool with interest as well, and stated that the Anfield club have been tracking him, alongside Bournemouth.

“That pack of admirers underlines how highly the left-footed midfielder is rated. He can operate in several attacking roles, has already featured against older age groups, and scored in the UEFA Youth League.

“The 15-year-old’s tally of goals and assists in youth club football this season is three each in six games, while he also scored twice for Germany’s under-17 side in September – once in victory against England.”

Aside from Liverpool, the likes of Tottenham, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City have also been mentioned as potential suitors, among others.

Frankfurt already have him tied down until 2029 and have also mapped out a clear pathway for the youngster, who has made massive waves in Germany with his performances for the youth teams.

An almighty scramble could ensue for Ilicevic and it appears as if Liverpool have positioned themselves in the thick of things.
