The Premier League season is underway and the Reds have already gotten off to a great start.
After their first two games, Liverpool have won both and are yet to concede a goal.
Their performances are already impressive with a clear change in their form and confidence.
This is no doubt due to the much-needed return of Virgil van Dijk following his recovery from injury last season.
His impact is already being felt, with the Reds looking calmer in possession and performing in defence.
So much so, that former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes he’ll be fancying his chances against Chelsea this weekend…
As cited by Anfield Watch above, Carragher recently spoke about the fixture on Sky Sports yesterday.
He felt that Van Dijk will be one of the only defenders in the Premier League that will relish against Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgium striker rejoined Chelsea just last week and has already hit the ground running for the Blues.
However, Carragher fancies Van Dijk’s chances against the forward this weekend, with the Reds welcoming them to Anfield.
The Dutchman has proven his ability and has helped transform Liverpool’s defensive capabilities.
Despite Lukaku’s obvious goalscoring prowess, there is no denying he will face a tough competitor in Van Dijk.
Both teams are in fine form after the first couple of games and this Saturday’s fixture will be highly contested.
However, Carragher clearly feels that if anyone in the league can stop Lukaku, then it is Van Dijk.
