Liverpool confirm squad numbers

Liverpool have today announced what squad numbers that their new signings will be wearing ahead of next season’s kick-off.

Danny Ings and James Milner’s numbers, we already had confirmation of earlier in the month, with the pair being allocated the number 28 and 7, respectively.

Joe Gomez, who signed from Charlton Athletic, has been given the number 12 shirt – the shirt he wore against the Thailand All Stars; where he impressed. Previous owners of the number 12 shirt include Victor Moses – most recently, Sami Hyypia, Fabio Aurelio and Dani Pacheco.

Adam Bodgan, who was brought in to provide back up to Simon Mignolet from Bolton Wanderers, has been given the number 34 – leaving Liverpool currently with no number 1; following Brad Jones’ release. Martin Kelly was the last person to have this shirt, before moving to Crystal Palace.

Divock Origi has been given the number 27 shirt, after his arrival from Lille. This shirt number isn’t the most prestigious in terms of who has previously owned it. Philipp Degen probably the most noticeable name – and that’s saying something!

Roberto Firmino has been handed the number 11 shirt. The Brazillian, who was brought in for big money, shares a shirt number with the likes of Jamie Redknapp, Vladimir Smicer, Mark Gonzalez, Albert Riera, Maxi Rodriguez and a certain Robbie Fowler.

Nathaniel Clyne has been allocated the number 2 jersey – a traditional right-back’s number. In fact, bar Stephane Henchoz; all of Liverpool’s previous number 2’s have been right-backs. Rob Jones, Jan Kronkamp, Andrea Dossena, Alvaro Arbeloa and most recently, Glen Johnson – who has now moved onto Stoke City.
