Liverpool could be one of the first teams to play in front of fans inside a stadium as plans are in place to potentially use the Community Shield as a test event.
As per a report in the Times, there are doubts remaining about whether the showpiece event will be played this summer given the change in schedule, but Premier League teams are apparently willing to play in the match if it can be used as a test event to get crowds back into stadiums.
Liverpool will almost certainly be involved in the game if it goes ahead as they’ll be the Premier League champions, and they’ll face one of Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester, Man City, Man United, Newcastle, Norwich or Sheffield United as they are the last remaining teams in the FA Cup.
Whilst not confirmed yet, the date of September 6th has been pencilled in for the Community Shield, but the game might not necessarily be played at Wembley, depending on which teams qualify to play in it.

As the UK lockdown continues to ease and more and more restrictions are lifted, plenty of football fans will be keen to get back inside stadiums to support their teams when it is deemed safe to do so.
The fact that Liverpool fans could be the first to be allowed back into a stadium to watch The Reds will be welcome news to plenty of supporters, although that is far from certain at this point.
In the grand scheme of things, the Community Shield isn’t a huge priority, but if it can be used to test the ability to safely have supporters back in a stadium, then it will take on huge significance for football fans up and down the country.
