This year’s European Championships has finally come to an end, with Italy crowned champions.
The Azzurri beat England in the final after a strenuous penalty shootout, making up for their 2012 heartbreak.
Throughout the month, a number of footballing stars were on show for clubs across the continent.
Liverpool themselves were scouting the crop of talent showcased at the tournament over the last month.
One of the stars for the Netherlands, Donyell Malen, has been a hot topic in the rumour mill for the Reds.
The club have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old, even speaking to his agent Mino Raiola.
In a recent report from journalist David Lynch for the Liverpool Echo, he explained the overriding issue over a transfer for Malen.
According to Lynch, the club have no problems over affordability for the £27m-rated striker.
The main issue, however, is his wages and their promises over playing time compared to rival clubs offers.
Along with Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund are targetting Malen as their successor to the outbound Jadon Sancho.
The English winger is set to join Manchester United in the next few days, giving Dortmund £73million to play with.
Not only that, but as Lynch reports, the Bundesliga club are able to offer regular first-team football next season.
Liverpool are in a very different position in regards to playing time, with them looking at Malen as a squad player.
The main dilemma for the Reds is his wages, with Malen and Raiola demanding a £100,000 p/w wage.
This is not realistic for a player that Liverpool know won’t receive regular first-team chances initially, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané the obvious first choice.
It will be interesting to see how this situation progresses, with Liverpool certainly big fans of Malen.
