Liverpool have been linked with a surprise move for USA captain and New York Red Bulls centre-back Aaron Long.
The opportunity to sign the American on a short-term loan deal was reported by Football Insider as the reigning Premier League champions attempt to find a solution to their defensive crisis before the transfer window closes.
Having previously been unmoved in the market despite downplaying calls for a new central defender, Jurgen Klopp has admitted that the club will try and do something in the coming days as he feels the effects of losing both Fabinho and Joel Matip.
Long, a 28-year-old has won 18 caps for USA, was impressive in last years MLS season, earning an average Sofascore match rating of 6.8.
However, some Kopites aren’t convinced that the top level of football on Stateside translates to Premier League quality, and as such have been rather brutal in their reactions to this transfer rumour.
One Liverpool fan made an unfavourable comparison with Lille’s Sven Botman, who has also been a reported transfer target for the Reds in this window.
Here’s a flavour of the reaction from Kopites towards the links with Long:

Twitter: @DaveOCKOP @SportsPeteO We’d only be signing him to promote the club in America. No way Klopp wants him. (@lfcnads)
