A new centre-back target has emerged for Liverpool, with Football Insider claiming the Reds are interested in signing USA captain Aaron Long.
The Reds have until Monday to make an addition at the back this month, as their injury crisis goes from bad to worse.
Incredibly, Jurgen Klopp is now without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Fabinho, leaving Liverpool threadbare defensively.
It is reported that the Reds could sign Long on a short-team loan deal from New York Red Bulls, with Klopp ‘weighing up’ a move for him.
The 28-year-old has won 18 caps for the USA since making his debut back in 2018.

It would be a surprise if Liverpool signed Long on loan, considering their transfer policy is unlikely to revolve around quick fixes.
Despite their injury woes, the Reds won’t panic buy in January, signing long-term acquisitions, if anyone at all.
On top of that, Long is completely unproven in a top European league, only plying his trade in America to date. That would make signing him a big risk, considering the step up in quality in the Premier League.
The hope is that a more established player arrives in the coming days, but don’t bank on it happening.
