Liverpool given hope in Rabiot pursuit

Liverpool have made the most recent approach for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to French reports from Paris United, as cited on Sports Mole.

The Frenchman has already turned down a chance to renew his contract at the reigning Ligue 1 champions and will leave the club in the summer as a free agent.

The 23-year-old has made 227 appearances for the French giants since his debut in 2012 but has only appeared for them 20 times this season and has not featured in the first team since December. Rabiot is currently training with the U23 squad amid the concerns over his future.

Rabiot is said to be in discussion with two other Premier League sides as well as Bayern Munich and Klopp’s ex-club Borussia Dortmund.

Barcelona were also linked with the midfielder, but it is understood talks broke down after the signing of midfield wonderkid Frenkie de Jong from Ajax.

A rising talent such as Rabiot is sure to be a steal as a free agent but he certainly comes at a price, with his wage demands believed to be set at €10m.

With 17 major honours to his name at just 23, the French midfielder is no stranger to success and the interests of European superclubs is no surprise.

But Liverpool fans will be happy to hear that Rabiot may already have allegiances to the reds.

Speaking in 2017 to French radio station RMC Sport he revealed his desire to play in the top flight saying,

There’s not necessarily any club in particular, even though when I was young I was a massive Liverpool fan.

Rabiot certainly doesn’t hide this on social media, posting a tribute in 2016 to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard with the famous Gerrard chant as his caption and tagged as “#BestMidfielder”.

He also posted recently on his Instagram story a picture of Anfield during a Champions League clash as the fans sang You’ll Never Walk Alone with the caption “Anfield” alongside heart-eyed emoji’s.

If the midfielder does end up at Anfield, he’ll undoubtedly become a fan-favourite.
