Liverpool Have Joined An Elite Group in the EPL History

As the Betway’s fans were getting prepared for the English Premier League, Liverpool are sitting pretty atop the league standings with an 8-point lead above Leicester in second, and 9 points above Manchester City in third. From what we’ve witnessed in their previous encounters, this is a team in full determination, and with all eyes focused on the top prize. Despite their incredible run last season, they missed out on the EPL trophy by a single point, amassing record-breaking 97 points, with City collecting 98 to emerge the eventual winners.

From 3rd Jan, 2019 – to date

After flooring bitter rivals Manchester City 3-1, and defeating a stubborn Crystal Palace away, Liverpool became the only 5th side to go unbeaten for 30 matches. Their last taste of loss dates back to 3rd of January this year when they lost 1-2 to Manchester City at the Etihad. As it stands, Liverpool’s next assignments are against lowly Brighton and Hove Albion side and Everton at Anfield, and an away game at Bournemouth before welcoming Watford. On paper, there does not seem to be any immediate threat to their run, but anything can happen in football.

You can follow and bet on EPL games with Betway to see how far Liverpool can go.

So, which are the other EPL sides to achieve this feat?

Manchester City (From 8th April 2017 – 2nd Jan 2018)

Pep Guardiola’s side stormed into a 30-match unbeaten streak that kicked off with a 3-1 win over strugglers Hull City, collecting 82 points in the process. That run was ended at Anfield by a well- oiled Liverpool side who won 4-3.

Arsenal (From 23rd Dec 2001 – 6th Oct 2002)

Arsenal kicked off a busy Christmas schedule with a win over Liverpool to go 30 matches without tasting defeat. That run saw them secure the 2001/02 English Premier league title in a match they defeated bitter rivals Manchester United, thanks to Sylvain Wiltord’s solitary strike. Their undefeated run came to an end at Everton where a 16-year old Wayne Rooney scored the winning goal.

Chelsea (From 23rd Oct 2004 – 29th Oct 2005)

Jose Mourinho, “The Special One” had arrived at the Bridge. Chelsea would go on a 40-match unbeaten run, conceding a paltry 19 goals in over 12 months. The same run saw them secure back-to-back EPL titles under the Portuguese tactician, but a Darren Fletcher goal at Old Trafford saw Manchester United remind Chelsea about how defeat felt like.

Arsenal (7th May 2003 – 16th Oct 2004)

They will go down as the ‘invincibles’, going a whole season unbeaten, and lifting their second EPL trophy at Highbury. Overall, Arsenal went on an incredible 49 matches without defeat, a streak that does not look to be under any threat, unless Liverpool can build on their current momentum to go all the way.

Arsenal’s run was halted again by Wayne Rooney who had swapped sides to join Manchester United from Everton. It was a painful defeat for Arsene Wenger who was aiming to go for a whole half-century without a defeat.
