Liverpool are reportedly set to battle Manchester United over the signing of Sporting CP left-back Nuno Mendes according to Alcochete Youth.
The Portuguese youngster is believed to have a €45 million release clause which both the Reds and United are interested in activating.
The 18-year-old has come through the ranks at the Lisbon club and there has been a fair bit of speculation as to where his future may lie.

Whilst obviously a prospect, it seems unlikely Jurgen Klopp would be interested in adding a third left-back to his squad, having already added Kostas Tsimikas this summer.
Having represented Portugal at all age groups bar Under-21 and senior level, Mendes is highly regarded in his homeland and is certainly a hot prospect.
Mendes played 17 times for Sporting’s Under-23 side in the 2019/20 Liga Revelacao, scoring once and assisting his teammates on three occasions.
The hefty release clause also provides an additional stumbling block for Liverpool so, in our opinion, this deal seems very unlikely.
However, should the club be able to negotiate the Portuguese side down to a more reasonable fee, there is perhaps scope to complete the deal and perhaps allow the youngster to remain with Sporting for the next season.
