Liverpool surprise as Sakho stays at Palace

Exiled Liverpool centre-back Mamadou Sakho, it was revealed in the Liverpool Ech, has surprisingly still not returned to his parent club despite his loan at Crystal Palace ending some time ago.

The former France international suffered a serious-looking knee injury shortly before the end of last season, that ruled him out of Palace’s final games, but instead of returning to Liverpool Sakho remains in London, as this Instagram post revealed yesterday:

The 27-year-old was a key figure in Palace avoiding the drop last season, as the club earned 16 points from his seven starts and he shored up a defence that had leaked goals prior to his arrival. A clamour was even growing amongst some Liverpool fans for Jurgen Klopp to bring him back into the fold at Anfield; but that all ended abruptly as, in yet another ill-advised moment, Sakho engaged in an elaborate handshake celebration with ex-Reds striker Christian Benteke, after the latter’s winning goal against his former club, despite Sakho being out injured and watching from the bench.

The defender had previously fallen the wrong side of Klopp after allegedly missing flights, turning up late to training, being disruptive on a pre-season tour, ranting about his situation on social media and taking supplements without the knowledge of Liverpool club staff, which led to his well-documented ban fiasco last year.

Liverpool are seeking around £30m for Sakho, a fee Palace were believed to be considering, however, with the sudden departure of manager Sam Allardyce last week, the troubled centre-back’s future is now in more doubt than ever.
