Liverpool target Jorginho wants to stay at Napoli

Jorginho, the Napoli midfielder who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, is hoping to stay in Naples, according to a report in The Liverpool Echo.

Napoli have been excellent this season, with Jorginho being at the centre of one of the closest Italian title races in recent years. They have lead for most of the way, but after losing and drawing their last two games against giants Inter Milan and AS Roma respectively, they have given Juventus a four point lead.

Napoli also were narrowly beaten on away goals by RB Leipzig in the Europa League Round of 32.

The Serie A side are aware that Jorginho’s impressive performances have been attracting attention from European giants, and have been heavily linked with a possible replacement; Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira.

However Joao Santos, Jorginho’s agent, says that his client is happy at Napoli and that he has no itentions to leave.

I don’t know what Napoli’s plan is but Jorginho doesn’t want to leave Sarri’s team. If there are offers for him and Napoli agree, then we could maybe talk about it but let’s see. Jorginho still has another two years of his contract and he could even renew his deal with Napoli in months to come.

So Liverpool’s pursuit of Jorginho may turn out to be fruitless, but as his agent says anything can happen in football and there’s always a chance that the Italian could be at Anfield next year.
